it’s been a year since we moved. i still miss chicago. on Flickr.

I stitched this in 2007. I still like this piece. I would stitch it again and not change a thing, except it would say six years. (And I’d probably try to find a font that was easier to read.) When we left Chicago we always intended to move back. We said 5 years as a hopeful timeline. Now it has been six years and I want to move back more than ever. I’m not getting used to life without Chicago, and I don’t want to.

I finished this little embroidery piece last week.  It was part of a swap hosted by Mollie of Wild Olive blog.  My partner said she liked space, geese, fairies, sunflowers, Texas, and Arizona.  She also listed one of her favorite colors as orange and purple.  After a lot of thought, I decided to go with a vintage pattern that featured bluebonnets, Texas’ state flower.  That covered both Texas and purple, I reckoned.  I hope she’ll like it, and I’m excited to receive a hoop from whoever stitched for me!

The Bone embroidery is finished, and we gave it to my 9 year old for his birthday this morning.  The framers did a great job cutting the mat.  And, damn, a mat with 5 openings is expensive.  But it was worth it to set off this piece I have been working on for so long.  So glad it is finished!  Love to see it hanging on the wall.  On to the next project…

Loon head on a messenger bag. This is my first go at “filling in” a shape this big. (Any advice on technique is appreciated!)

Everything was done by hand, with inspiration from a Google image search photograph. When the messenger bag is closed, the loon head pokes out below the flap.
